Gudjohnsen left Stamford Bridge two years ago to join Barcelona after picking up back-to-back Premier League winner’s medals in West London.

He said on Setanta Sports News: “For me the one who stood out was Mourinho. I think the time that I had in Chelsea was excellent.

“Chelsea for me was always a big club, but when Mourinho came, they became a top club."

Mourinho was forced out of Stamford Bridge at the beginning of last season, but has since taken the reins at Italian champions Inter.

And Inter's gain is Chelsea's loss according to Gudjohnsen, who credits Mourinho with turning The Blues expensively assembled squad inito title winners.

“Obviously we won The Premier League twice and achieved a lot of success," he added. "He gave us that extra bit of confidence that we needed.

“If you look at the team that we had before Mourinho, a lot of the players who were already there were in Mourinho’s first team when we won the league.

“I am very grateful to him and he is probably one of the best coaches I have played under so far.”
